Bro. Phil was saved on June 2, 1974.  In 1975 his interest in gospel music grew and it was then that he started singing in church.  Around 1977,  Bro. Phil became the music director of the church he was attending, and as they say, the rest is history.  A member of this church taught Bro. Phil how to play the guitar, and in 1983 he joined his first gospel group which gave him the opportunity to start traveling, playing, and singing around the mid-south on the weekends.

In addition to traveling on the weekends and witnessing through his music to other churches, Bro. Phil has had the privilege of directing the Lord’s music in church for at least 25 years.

In July of 2001while taking the church youth to camp, the Lord called Bro. Phil to a new ministry, and that was to preach His word.  After returning home from the trip, Bro. Phil had to disband the gospel group he had started 10 years earlier.  God has since called him and his wife, Linda to go out and sing and evangelize.

In 2007, the door was opened and Bro. Phil was invited to become the Music Minister of Oaklawn Baptist Church.  After many hours and weeks of prayer, God led him to take the position.

It is here that Bro. Phil is currently doing what the Lord wants him to do.  In Psalms 100, it says, “Serve the Lord with gladness.”  If you ask Bro. Phil right now about the ministry God has put him in, he will tell you with a glow on his face, “I am having the best time of my life.”
